South Islands best attractions – New Zealand

Has there been a time where you don’t feel like blinking even for a second as you are scared you will miss the wondrous moment you are currently living? Something this extravagant is what you are going to witness at New Zealand’s South Island. You can spend months exploring and still feel you haven’t seen enough, but with a limited number of days these are things you should surely put on your list:-

Queenstown – A popular tourist attraction and the heart of the South Island is more than just a dreamy location. If you like nature, adventure or just a peaceful scenic getaway this is the place to be. Be it summer, autumn or winter this place is always brimming with activities which also makes it slightly expensive, but when you are in a heaven like this, I don’t think you will mind spending a bit more.

Milford Sound – This UNESCO world heritage is more than just a National park, as you pass through the striking landscape of Fjordland National Park you will be charmed by the breathtaking view of the glaciers, waterfalls and the serene lake which will take your breath away.

Fox Glacier or Franz Josef Glacier – Take the challenge and hike about to this glacier, it’s an experience you will love and cherish for a lifetime. Even though getting to this glacier town is a bit of a journey in itself, but I would suggest you do this for a day and catch the trans scenic rail next day from Greymouth which will be a memorable ride and a trip worth taking.

Kaikoura – A 2hr drive from Christchurch, this place is known for mammal watching. Be it a child or an adult you will be surprised by the entertaining show the mammals will put across, don’t forget to try one of the specialities of this town which are Crayfish.

Christchurch – After the 2011 earthquake there was a lot of destruction in the city, but today you can see how the city has overcome it with art work installation in tremor affected areas. If the weather is pleasant, make sure to enjoy punting on the Avon, or visit their Botanic Garden. International Antarctic Centre is also one of their best tourist attractions, so a visit here is a must.

So with these being the top sights in New Zealand’s, South Island I would recommend at least a week’s time to explore them at a good pace to enjoy all the scenic and activities presented here.
