Beaches – For those seeking relaxation and breathtaking scenery, Icaria’s beaches are not to be missed. From the popular Seychelles Beach which is about 20km away from the main centre to the serene Nas Beach, there’s a beach to suit every taste and mood. Some other beaches to check out are Evdilos beach which is peaceful and calm, Livadi beach which is pretty much deserted from the tourists, and Karavostamo Beach for its sparkling blue water.

Religious and cultural heritage is also abundant in Icaria, like the Temple of Artemis, The castle of Koskina which goes back to the tenth century or The tower of Drakano which was constructed somewhere around the 4th Century, isn’t that amazing? The island also has many stone houses which were built to protect the locals from pirate attacks, and are scattered all around the glorious island.

Nature lovers will enjoy exploring the island’s wild terrain, including the stunning Halari Gorge, which is about 50km away from the main town, there you can witness lakes, and waterfalls and there is a trekking path for the people who love to explore more.

Icaria is also home to several museums and historic sites, including the Kambos Archaeological Museum, the Monastery of Monte, and Theoskepasti Church.

For the more adventurous traveller, Icaria offers unique activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and snorkelling. Take a hike through the island’s rugged terrain and discover hidden coves and stunning scenery. Rock climbing enthusiasts will love exploring the island’s cliffs and caves, while snorkelers will find an abundance of marine life in the crystal-clear waters of Icaria’s beaches.

Some other places to see while you are here would be the small village of Armenistis, it has a wonderful church and like mentioned earlier its beach called Aghios Kirikos is very popular too. Another place to consider would be the picturesque village of Evdilos, a stroll around town would be great to understand the laidback life around here.

Getting to Icaria from Athens is easy, with regular ferry and flight services available, the ferry does take a decent amount of time so do keep that in mind, but there are connections available to reach Ikaria even from other islands such as Syros or Mykonos. A fairly simple alternative would also be a flight from Athens airport directly to the tiny airport on the island.

The wondrous island of Icaria is the perfect destination for travellers seeking a mix of adventure, relaxation, and authentic Greek culture. From its stunning beaches and historic sites to its unique activities and charming villages, Icaria is a true island paradise.
