A thirty-minute walk from Vourkaria Bay will take you to the Cave of Saint John (Agios Ioannis), which offers a breathtaking view. The Church of Panagia with its five domes is also located in Panagia. Slightly two kilometres away from Panagia is the Chapel of Prophet Elias, located on the highest peak of Iraklia.
Iraklia is also home to some of the most stunning beaches in Greece. Livadi Beach, which is only 1.5 kilometres away from the main town, is a must-visit. The Agios Georgios Beach is also worth checking out. Lastly, Paralia Vorini is a bit difficult to get to, but it’s worth the hike. It takes about 30 minutes to hike there from the main town.

Scuba diving is another fun activity to consider. Of course, no visit to Iraklia is complete without indulging in some delicious Greek cuisine. You can also take a boat trip to the iconic two beaches of Nisos Irakleia park, which can only be accessed by boat from the main town.
Getting to Iraklia from Athens is quite challenging, as there are no direct ferry routes. Most ferries stop at Naxos or Paros, with the ferry from Naxos taking only 90 minutes. From Athens, there are quite a few stops, and the journey can take around six hours or more. Unfortunately, there are no airports on the island.
