Dubai has recently had an explosion of restaurants popping up and looks like my old rounds up are outdated as either the restaurants have closed or some have been replaced by an entirely new concept but regardless here is a new and improved round-up on my favourite Italian restaurants in Dubai. Since my last round-up, there have been more acclaimed chefs who have actively taken part in the diverse Dubai food scene and that’s interesting as it gives us more options and some distinguished dishes.
The Artisan – This restaurant has a new location in the Waldorf Astoria DIFC and I was extremely content with the impressive list of the menu. The interiors are quite pleasing and the dishes succulent. I had the pleasure of trying a couple of Pasta, including the Burrata and their heavenly Tiramisu which I still crave! Also if you plan to visit the outlet do order the Truffle Pizza, it is divine.

Scalini – One of my old favourites places especially since I have tried it in London and in Dubai, and never did I have a mediocre experience. The food here is splendid, and certainly a bit different from the original restaurant in London as they have tweaked the menu here to cater to the regional crowd. I preferably love to dine here in the winter as the outdoor terrace is beautiful. A must-try here is the Beef Stefano, and my favourite Funghi Risotto. Scalini has some tuff competition as it’s surrounded by some great restaurants but it has still managed to enchant its guests for years.

Basta – Situated in the Renaissance hotel, Basta is my new favourite restaurant especially as my dining experience had surpassed my expectations. I wish I went here with an empty stomach so I could relish more on their food. The wood-fired Pizzas are my favourite, don’t forget to try the Ricotta and Truffle Pizza along with a luscious portion of the Carbonara. Basta is surely new compared to the other restaurants on here but when it comes to serving quality food, they have aced it.

Gia – When I first heard about this place I wasn’t convinced that it could survive long since it was located in a mall, but to my surprise, the location has been the strong point of this wonderful eatery along with the exquisite food. I recently tried their Tiramisu and even baked their Pizza at home since they have launched their DIY boxes and I cannot stress how amazing both the dishes were. Love to visit this restaurant in the evenings as you can get a marvellous view of the dancing fountain.

Alici – Situated in Bluewaters, this is the sister property of the famed Il Borro Tuscan Bistro in Al Naseem. If you are a fan of South of Italy, this place in particular will appeal to you as they have a great influence from the Amalfi coast and they aim to bring a little piece of Italy in Dubai. Il Borro has already won people’s heart so why not give this a try? Also you will thank me for recommending their absolute delicious Spaghetti Alla Chittarra Pasta, only wish I could indulge in one, right away.

Torno Subito – When there is a chef like Massimo Bottura who is associated with a restaurant you don’t question it! His restaurant in Italy has been listed as the fifth-best restaurant in the world and of course, his restaurant has received Michelin Star too. When I heard about this restaurant opening I was overjoyed, and since then I have had countless opportunities to dine there. The food here carries a legacy of this genius chef and is a must-try. Don’t forget to binge on that Tiramisu.
W, Palm Jumeirah. 04 245 5555
Cinque – Five Palm Jumeirah is not only a party destination but also known for some great food. After having an incredible dining experience at Maiden Shanghai I made sure to check out Cinque and wasn’t disappointed. The chefs take utmost care in preparing some glorious dishes.

Cipriani – If you haven’t heard about Cipriani you are living under a rock, DIFC sure does have plenty of amazing restaurants and Ciprani is one of them. It’s an honour to eat and see here among the elites, the menu does seem promising and the quality of dishes live up to its name. They have been in the hospitality business since 1931 and when with that long history you bet it won’t downhearted. A must-try here is the Vanilla Meringue and the creamy Burrata.
DIFC, Gate Village 3. 04 347 0003
Marea – Another DIFC contender for my round-up is Marea, originally from New York this place elevates simple Italian food into extraordinary dishes. Chef Michael White is quite acclaimed and his food nevertheless is exceptional, from caviars to pastas you won’t regret ordering it. My advice don’t skip the Pansotti pasta and the tiramisu. The decor is chic and sophisticated and adds up to the overall brilliant experience.
