Milan is Italy’s version of Paris for me, best restaurants, amazing shopping experiences, excellent museums and fabulous nightlife. There is nothing not to love about this cosmopolitan city, which is also a hub for art and culture.
This city has a special place in my heart and for some reason, I just can’t get enough of it. I have to say on my last trip to Milan all I did was relax in their park, eat out and shop some of the brands. Well, I wish I could do this forever, isn’t it the best way to enjoy yourself? In my spare time when I wasn’t eating and shopping I even explored some outstanding museums, cathedrals and castles. So overall Milan is a no brainer, you have to add this city in your bucket list. Three days is just about enough to see most of the attractions but if you wish to take day trips then depending on the cities you are planning fo explore maybe another few days.
Duomo – It’s the heart of Milan and no trip to Milan would be completed without making a visit to Duomo. There is a lot of history attached to it and if you are lucky to get grab your hands on the to the ticket, please visit the terrace gallery as the view is beautiful from there. If you don’t want to stand in line to see the cathedral then make it a point to head there early. This cathedral is the largest in Europe, impressive isn’t it?
Galleria Vittoria Emmanuelle – This shopping mall right next to the Duomo is flooded with tourists at all time, it also has a restaurant and a hotel on the above floor and the view is amazing from there. The shops here are mainly luxury brands and even the restaurants and cafes are slightly expensive and do not do justice with the Milanese food but it’s a good place to see and take a stroll.
Navigli District – If you are in the mood for great food then look no further then Navigli District, it’s populated with restaurants and cafes and with the view of the canal it adds to that romantic ambience too. You can find international as well as Italian food around, the choices are unlimited.
Santa Maria Delle Grazie – The 15th-century painting of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous work Last Supper is housed in this church of Milan. Apart from this famed painting, you can glare at many more paintings and works of different artists. Entrance is limited so make sure to buy your tickets well in advance.
Castello Sforzesco – This castle has a museum and inside you can see famous paintings, sculptures, weapons, and collection of antiques. The castle has an entrance fee but if this doesn’t interest you, you can take a stroll around the garden.
Opera show at Teatro Alla Scala – One of the most reputed opera houses in the world, this place will impress many if they are into the theatre. The opera house even has a museum where you can see the costume and mementoes of great performers of all time. Make sure to buy your tickets before you head there as it gets sold out way in advance.
Brera – My favourite part of Milan is this adorable neighbourhood of Brera, plenty of museums around, cafes and restaurants, art galleries, and the best part it’s not as touristy as the centre. I find this the new upcoming area for anyone who is passionate about art and culture and is looking for inspiration. The Sunday market is popular here too.
Parco Sempione – During summer it is the perfect place for picnics, but nevertheless, you can still take a stroll in winter and enjoy the vast open space surrounded by trees, lakes and birds. You can even walk to the Castello Sforzesco from here.
10 Corso Como – This is the new place to be if you are into art, fashion, and music. The decor oozes Italian charm and is a perfect place to grab a coffee and stroll around. This entertainment complex has also become a great place for people-watching and trying out new restaurants. Its is one fashionable place in Milan.
Shopping – If you come to Milan you should check out the shopping scene here, there are plenty of outlets and streets where you can shop till your heart’s content. Some streets not to be missed if you want to stay up to date with fashion are Via Montenapoleone, Via Della Spiga, Via Manzoni, and Via Sant’Andrea. You can even head to their outlets which are a bit further out of the city but have a decent sale, watch out for Fox town outlet and Serravalle Designer outlet.
These are my some of my suggestion for a two day trip in Milan but if you have more time in hand check out museums like Museo Poldi Pezzoli, Pinacotea Ambrosiana, Milan Archaeological Museum, and Galleria d’Arte Moderna. Another few interesting sights which might interest you are Cimitero Monumentale (cemetery) and Chiesa Di San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore (monastery).
Milan is overwhelming with things to do so its a good idea to choose an itinerary which suits your personality or your liking.
