I feel Seville deserves a bit more tourist attention as prior to my visit I literally though Spain was all about Barcelona and Madrid and to know more about this town and to drown myself in the culture of this Andalusian city I managed to take two trips in the span of thirty days. This act of my definitely shows the utmost love I have for travel but also the passion to know a town like a local does. While walking is too mainstream I took a four hour segway tour followed by a carriage ride too, it was pretty impressive and gave me a different outlook towards the city. While most of the activities are centred towards the old town it would be advisable to stay somewhere around here as there is a lot of walking involved. Seville surely has a number of attractions to look forward too but some which are highly recommended are:-
Alcazar: It is an illustrious palace in Seville, built for the Christian ruler Peter of Castile. Its one of the oldest palace which is used till date, the history is pretty impressive and it is situated in the heart of the old town. You can take a guided tour or a walk through on your own but knowing the features of this place would surely make the trip interesting.
Plaza de Espana Seville: It’s a massive courtyard the Parque de María Luisa, in Seville, built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. Its one of the landmark places here, and no doubt the backdrops of this marvellous structure is used for many movie shootings as well. Its usually busy and you will find many street performers entertaining the tourist around. In my opinion, this square is absolutely romantic and if you want to make it even better take a boat ride around the Plaza.
Avenida de la constitution: It is a significant wide lane fixed with diners, shopping stores, and Seville Cathedral. Usually, in the evenings, it gets busy but a stroll around here is a must. You can gaze at some of the beautiful Spanish buildings and get a sense of Spanish lifestyle.
Seville Cathedral: One of the UNESCO World heritages this gothic cathedral has to be one of the most exuberant architectural designs I have ever seen. Its still used today for prayer services and you can visit it as well, as its one of the top-rated attractions in the city. You can even buy tickets to visit the rooftop of the cathedral but getting hold of the ticket is difficult.
Giralda: It is the bell tower of Seville Cathedral. It was initially worked as the minaret for the Great Mosque of Seville in al-Andalus. Do make sure to walk up the stairs to appreciate the view, it’s not a difficult walk and the view is worth it. Due to the unique history of Spain, the structure has gone through many changes and it stands today as an example of the rich architectural value.
Torre Del Oro: Overlooking the river this military watchtower was even used as a prison during the middle age. Its been renovated several times and today it stands as the naval museum, climb the spiral staircase for some breathtaking view of the river and its neighbourhood.
Barrio Santa Cruz: This landmark is the tourist heart of the city, and it offers a view from the Giralda chime tower, and the Real Alcázar, a Moorish-Renaissance royal residence supported by rich greenery enclosures. It’s a Jewish neighbourhood and known for its small alleyways. Pretty popular to visit as it has some interesting tales to tell, would suggest taking a guided tour here.
Seville has a unique history and culture and having quite a few UNESCO World heritages also raises the importance of this charming city. Apart from the interesting historical side it also has some cool museums, restaurants, and bridges to keep you busy on your trip here.
