While my stay in Manchester I took a day trip to this scenic place called Lake District. The views are phenomenal and it feels like this part of UK is straight from heaven. There is a lot to see and do here, and if the weather would be pleasant I would even consider staying here for the night. It is one of the extraordinary places you would have seen which has alluring greenery and scenery which takes your breath away.
Unfortunately, there are no tours operating from Manchester so I took a train ride to Windermere station which is the first point in Lake District. Situated just a few steps away from the petite station is a tourist centre which can give you details about a few tours operating from here.
Taking the tour was a great way to see this pleasing park in over a few hours but unlike me, if you have planned a trip to Lake District, these are the attractions and places shouldn’t miss.
Dove Cottage – One of the main reasons I went here was to take a tour of the famous poet William Wordsworth house. Situated in the Grasmere district of Lake District this makes for a great pit stop. You can even view the garden located adjacent to the house, it’s beautiful.
Lake Windermere – Not only is this the largest natural lake in Lake District but in England as well. There is a lot of water-related sports and activities which take place here. If you like to take it easy you can take a boat ride and enjoy the scenic views of this heavenly abode. World of Beatrix Potter is a delightful attraction which is popular among families, and if this is not your cup of tea you can head to Wray Castle or Rydal water.
Kendal – I had my lunch at the market square of Kendal, walking down the cobbled street wasn’t a bad idea after all. There a lot of attractions around here like Sizergh Castle or Kendal Castle.
Brockhole – A lot of activities happen around this part of the town from archery, rafting, treetop trek, etc. A favourite pass time of many locals and tourists around here is sitting by the Lake Windermere.
Ullswater – If you like to see some terrific scenery head to the Aira Force waterfall, or you and your family can try the Ullswater Steamer, which is a popular attraction here. Lowther Castle will stunt you with its enthralling glamour and don’t miss a walk in the garden.
Keswick – If I could choose a town to stay in Lake District it would be Keswick, it has numerous activities to keep you entertained and the market square is an adorable little place to do some retail therapy or enjoy a meal at their various restaurants or cafes.
Ravenglass – This seven-mile village is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, it has a steam railway and a fascinating Muncastle castle which has a wealth of history attached to it.
My trip to the Lake District was unforgettable and I would love to visit it again, a glamping plan is being executed by my family and I am eagerly looking forward to it.
