Capital of Queensland, Brisbane is as interesting as Sydney or Melbourne. You will be delighted with options for restaurants, cafes, museums, photography spots, beaches and architecture. I went here for a day trip from Gold Coast and regret not spending a few days here, there is so much to see and a day is just not enough. As a shopping enthusiast you would love this city as there are local as well as international brands to look out for.
Brisbane is home to quite a few wildlife sanctuaries so another option to see koalas and my favourite kangaroos. Art and culture are thriving in Brisbane along with hotels and resorts. Brisbane you surprised me at every point and some day I wish to visit and spend more time here.
Howard Smith Whaves – If not for the view, go here for some superb food and drinks. This place is packed during the evenings and why shouldn’t it be as its a beautiful location with a pleasing atmosphere. Situated on the Brisbane River this promenade makes a beautiful place for running or jogging or just to take a stroll. Known as an entertaining and lifestyle destination, make sure to visit this place.
Queen street mall – This open air pedestrian mall has over 700 retailers and would be great place to spend your time if you enjoy shopping or eating. Apart from shopping there is art galleries, rooftop bars, and even arcades to check out. There is some or the other events happening all year round here. There is even a five storey department store called Queens Plaza which was my favourite out of all the stores here. Around Queen Street Mall you can also have a look at Edward St, Albert St or Elizabeth St.
Fish lane – One of the most funkiest streets in Brisbane is Fish Lane, with numerous restaurants and cafes popping it is worth checking out. I enjoyed the atmosphere around here and the unique street art.
Eat Street Northshore – No more scouting for food places as Eat Street is the ultimate place to be. Restaurants placed in shipping containers make for quite a funky place to spend your time in Brisbane.
Kangaroo point cliffs – Get your cameras out as this point offers the ideal view of the Brisbane skyline. It is a usual spot for tourists but for me catching a sunset here was exceptional. You can even take a walk beneath the viewing point at the The Cliffs Boardwalk.
Story Bridge – Brisbane’s answer to Sydney’s Harbour Bridge is ‘Story Bridge’ and it is amusing. The fun to drive down over and again here is immensely satisfying and if that’s not enough you can even climb and abseil down, so what are you waiting for?
South Bank – The locals love this area and so do the tourists, surrounded by green space, swimming pool, scenic view, restaurants and cafes. This area is also devoted to some special theatres, art galleries, museum, science-centre and State Library. You can spend hours around here without getting bored.
Another few famed attractions here are the Nepalese Pagoda, The Arbour, and the Brisbane Wheel.
Little stanley street – Brisbane really goes out of its way to please its people with some great foodie options and one such place is Little Stanley Street. With cuisines such as Indian, Turkish, Japanese, Malaysian and a lot more to appeal your tastebuds, you won’t have to look further then this foodie destination.
Eagle street – Another paradise for food lovers is this waterfront promenade and you even get a fantastic view of Story Bridge. Being in the centre of CBD you can easily be impressed with the award winning restaurants here.
Fortitude Valley – Get your retail therapy at this shopping district of Brisbane. With over 130 stores both of which includes local and international boutiques you will love spending your time here. They even have a Collective market held every weekend so more reasons to stop by.
Botanical Garden – This wonderland of flora and fauna would be a treat for people of all age group. Have a look at the Japanese Gardens, fragrant garden, and the tropical dome where you can find exotic habitats of plants and rainforest trees.
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary – Nothing better then see some adorable Koala Bears at this Sanctuary. This place is considered the largest retreat for over 130 koalas and you don’t have to be a child to enjoy this place as even adults will be fascinated. A fun fact this is also the worlds oldest sanctuary.
A few other things to check out while in Brisbane is also GOMA which is a fine art gallery, Triffid for music lovers, Streets Beach at South Bank, Treasury Building, City Hall, Olde Government House, Brisbane Riverwalk and Mary Poppins iconic House.
