Being the capital of Western Australia, Perth gives you the chance to get close to nature and the wilderness. Even though its population is over 1 million it is still known as the most secluded and isolated city but that shouldn’t stop you from venturing here and exploring the countryside of this thriving city. It has some of the most beautiful beaches, rugged landscape, superb botanic gardens, shopping and a blooming art and culture scene.
Unwind at the Beaches – You are in for a treat my friend especially if you love the laid back beach lifestyle as Perth has some pristine beaches and coastlines which will cast a magical spell on you. Most of their beaches have great access to water-based activities and are not to further away from the city. The most popular beach which is a mere 15min drive from the centre is Cottesloe Beach, here you can swim, see the pleasing sunset, surf or snorkel. Some other beaches to check out here are Mettams Pool, Leighton Beach, Trigg Beach and North Beach.
Kings Park – One of the largest park in the city which also has access to the Western Australian Botanic Garden, it is indeed an ideal place to start your Perth adventure. There are quite a few displays, and events happening all year round. To keep you active they even have walking trails and a million dollar view of the Swan River and the Perth Skyline. You can even join free walking tours here for more informative knowledge about the rich history and aboriginal culture of this fascinating park.
Rottnest Island – If you like to see some wildlife head to this alluring island where you will find sea lions, fur seals and the adorable Quokkas. This is a no-car zone so you can reach here via a ferry from Fremantle, bikes are allowed for a minimum charge. There are plenty of things to do around here like snorkelling, swimming, taking a cruise, seeing the fascinating wildlife or joining the free walking tours at the island. This is an 11km long island so it makes it easy to explore, daredevils can even opt for Sky Diving here. You can even take the 45 kilometres Wdjemup Bidi trail where you will come across scenic views, and stunning lakes.
This island is a whole lot of fun for people who want to unwind and enjoy the beach life with some amazing food and coffee.
Elizabeth Quay – If you are in CBD you should make it a point to check this waterfront precinct, surrounded by hotels, restaurants, cafes and public artwork this is a perfect destination to spend your afternoon or evening as you destress. For tourists, there are cruise options, segway tours, and gondola rides among many other entertainment choices. You can even walk to attractions such as Narrows Bridge, Parliament House, iconic Barracks Arch, or Perth Arena.
Fremantle – This eccentric precinct which is around 30min away from Perth is worth seeing as it has numerous art galleries, shopping, amazing restaurants, and the famous Freemantle market operating since 1879. There are many music and art festivals happening all year round. The Fremantle Prison here is the only heritage-listed building in Western Australia, there are tours happening to enlighten you about the history. Don’t miss out the oldest building in Western Australia which is the Round House, Shipwreck Museums, and the famous Cappuccino Strip for restaurants, and cafes. To indulge in some fresh seafood you can also venture to the Fremantle Shipping Boat Harbour.
Swan Valley – Take a day off from the city life and head to the soothing Swan Valley, here you can venture on nature trails, its also a foodie paradise with wonderful restaurants, romantic spots to view the seductive sunset or cruise down the Swan River. Families can take part in two interactive games where they have to find clues along the valley and the family which finishes it receive certificates and gifts at the end. There are also a few museums around including a conservative park called Whiteman Park, a reptile park, and animal farms to keep the kids entertained along with one of the oldest cinema in Western Australia.

Cathedral Square – Situated between St Georges Cathdredal and City of Perth Library this open space is quickly becoming a dynamic precinct of CBD. Many restaurants, cafes and boutiques are around here, this is a great entertainment district which is also surrounded with historical buildings such as Perth Town Hall, David Malcolm Justice Centre, and State Buildings.
Perth Mint – If you are interested in the history of Western Australian Gold, and Perth Mint this is the place to visit. They have exhibits, demonstrations, collector coins, jewelleries and many more centrepieces to attract your attention.
Penguin Island – You must have guessed why this island is called Penguin Island, well if you haven’t its because they have the most adorable and smallest penguins around here apart from the pristine clear water you can even find sea lions, dolphins, and seals here. This island has infinite activities to keep you occupied like kayaking, swimming with the dolphins, seeing the penguins feed, kiteboarding and cruises. You wouldn’t get bored here and would love to revisit this heaven.
Barrack Street Jetty – A waterside promenade which is bustling with restaurants, cafes, and a beautiful view of the Swan River. Check out the Bell Tower here which is also the worlds largest musical instrument along with a visit to its observatory for views of the city and the river.
Some other places to visit in Perth are the Perth Zoo, St. Marys Cathedral, Aquarium of Western Australia, Chinatown and North Bridge for a superb night out.
