After the closure of Katsuya in Dubai Mall I was heartbroken as the location not only had the view but also the culinary diversity exposing the modern Japanese dishes which at that time wasn’t too prominent in Dubai. Well, I wasn’t the only one who adored this restaurant, and since then the news of Katsuya’s opening has been doing rounds in Jumeirah Al Naseem, a new address to explore Dubai’s finest restaurants.
Chef Katsuya Uechi takes immense pleasure in crafting a menu which is not just creative but also filled with some of the past favourites, in my opinion, it is the best decision. Their Crispy Rice Tuna and Yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño have substantial flavours which shall remind you how exceptional this chef is, especially when it comes down to food.
They have varied options for sushi and sashimi too, but I wanted to try the Chefs specialities so went with the ‘The Hollywood’ and ‘Salmon Lemon Roll’, absolutely satisfying especially with the hint of wasabi on it.
Here you can even find the famous Bibimbap also called Bops, or try some of their Robata grills where the subtle charcoal flavours are pretty evident. I went with the classic choice of Miso Cod and one of their Braised Short Ribs Bops. The Short Rib mixture with the rice was incredible, and the Miso Cod was juicy but still had a slight hint of fishy texture which could have been avoided in my opinion.
Desserts are one of the essential things, so go for their Double Chocolate Lava Cake and Green Tea Mousse Cake, won’t let you down. With Chef Katsuya creating magic on your plate make sure you to try this place for some modern Japanese dishes.

Japanese isn’t really one of my regular cuisines, and it is a tad under-represented in Dubai, so looking forward to trying here sometime in the future.
Think you’ve sold me on the Short Rib and Miso Cod ….
Keep up the great work 🙂
